DRESS YOUR CHILDREN FOR THE WEATHER
Children will go outside twice each day for recess. The only exceptions would be rain, an outdoor temperature less than 10 degrees or a windchill of negative-0 degrees. Children are expected to wear all the outerwear they come to school in (boots, hats, mittens, scarfs and coat). The school does not have outerwear to give students. The surplus-energy theory of play hypothesizes that play allows people to release pent-up energy that has collected over time. Many believe that after intense (and often inactive) academic classroom pursuits, children need to “let off steam.” To some extent, educators also believe that outdoor play enables children to “recharge their batteries,” to reinvigorate themselves by engaging in a very different activity from their classroom experience. This recreation theory of play enables children to get ready to return to the important work of academic learning. These theories view outdoor play as an essential component to academic learning.Dress your children for the weather so they can be warm and enjoy being outside.
