Mrs. Kortney Smith, Principal
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr who said, "we are not the makers of history, we are made by our history." I am excited about the growth and education we will all gain from this historical moment in Brown Deer. Elementary school is a critical time in your child's education. As your principal, I take this responsibility very seriously. It is a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful staff that believes in teaching best practices that are research based.
You have seen both the outside and inside of this building transform over the past few months. What you can expect to see is the transformation in our staff. This school year you can expect to see personalized learning, team-teaching and students moving about the building in various learning spaces. †Our students will learn inside and outside of our building. At Brown Deer Elementary School we know that children all learn differently and we work to accommodate a variety of learning styles.
I am proud to be a part of a community that takes such pride and dedication in educating children that you are willing to pass a referendum to ensure their learning environment increases engagement opportunities and is safe.
I am proud to work with a School Board that holds us accountable but supports our needs.
I am proud to be your principal and with the help of Assistant Principals, Ellis Turrentine and Ellen Schimenz, the Staff, community and all of you, we will have an outstanding school year that is safe and full of life and energy that promotes student learning.
